Lufthansa, the world’s largest airline network celebrated the start of new international nonstop service between the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and busiest airport in Germany, the Frankfurt Airport (FRA) Rhein-Main-Flughafen, on Friday, May 3, 2019.

The gate celebration included a ribbon-cutting program, cake, musical performances by Tessy Lou and the Shotgun Stars and Sophia Johnson, and remarks from the airline to announce the start of the five days per week service.

Austin marks the third Texas gateway city to have nonstop service by Lufthansa. Currently, the AUS to FRA route is the only new North American nonstop addition announced by the German carrier this year. A Star Alliance network codeshare partner, Lufthansa’s first arriving flight LH468 from FRA to AUS, touched down in Austin around 2:05 PM. Flight LH469, departed Austin at 4 PM to Frankfurt.

“Lufthansa’s service is a doorway for Central Texans to reach Europe and for global travelers to experience Austin’s art, music, and culinary culture,” said Jim Smith, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Executive Director. “Frankfurt, Germany is a desired international economic and tourist destination. We welcome the air service between the two tech hubs and the successful interchange of international tourism, business, and economic development opportunities.”

Lufthansa operates the flight with a 225 passenger Airbus A330-300 in a three-class cabin configuration. The aircraft has 42 Business Class seats, 28 Premium Economy seats, and 185 Economy Class seats. Flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Optimally timed, flight LH469 will depart Austin at 4 PM and arrive at 9:05 AM in Frankfurt the following day. For passengers flying to Austin, LH 468 is set to take off at 10 AM from the Frankfurt Airport, arriving in Austin at 2:05 PM. All times are local.
