Low-fare carrier, Frontier Airlines has started nonstop service from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to San Francisco International Airport. The new seasonal service will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

“We are thrilled to begin service from Austin to San Francisco,” said Daniel Shurz, Senior Vice President, Commercial for Frontier Airlines. “Frontier is always looking for ways to make travel from central Texas easier and more affordable, and our Kids Fly Free and Friends Fly Free programs are the latest example of what we mean by Low Fares Done Right.”

“Service to San Francisco marks Frontier’s 19th non-stop route from the Austin South Terminal,” said Jeff Pearse, CEO, LoneStar Airport Holding, LLC, and operator of the South Terminal at the Austin airport. “We are pleased to welcome those travelers to the South Terminal – and invite them to enjoy an airport experience that evokes the golden age of air travel – intimate, retro design, outdoor seating, a food truck and a vibe that is uniquely Austin.”

All Frontier flights operate from the South Terminal which has a separate entrance and parking on the south side of the airport and is not accessible from inside the Barbara Jordan Terminal or from SH 71. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has become the newest international carrier to arrive at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). The Dutch carrier has announced international nonstop service three days a week between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) starting May 4, 2020.

The flight will operate on a 292-seat Airbus A330-300 on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays in a three-class cabin configuration offering customers seating in World Business Class (30) Economy Comfort (40), and Economy Class (222).

“We have built up a robust transatlantic network thanks to our joint ventures with Air France and Delta Air Lines. We will continue to optimize this network,” said Pieter Elbers, CEO and President of KLM. “As part of this we launched services to Boston and Las Vegas in the summer and are now adding Austin to our North American destinations.”

Optimally timed, Flight KL0667 departs Schiphol at 12:40 PM and arrives at 4:10 PM local time in Austin. KL0668 departs Austin at 6 p.m. and arrives at Schiphol the next day at 10:25 AM local time.

“KLM’s flights contribute to Austin-Bergstrom’s goal of connecting Austin to the world, and the world to Austin,” said Jacqueline Yaft, Director of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. “Our recent 9-gate expansion gives AUS six new international-capable gates, and we look forward to growing those capabilities even more in the future as the airport itself expands.”

KLM’s announcement follows Delta’s naming Austin a focus city and opening a SkyClub at AUS earlier this year. KLM and Delta are both members of the SkyTeam Alliance.

“We are thrilled with today’s announcement that KLM has chosen to connect Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to Amsterdam Schiphol. This is a major win for our airport, our business community, and our region,” said Doug Driskill, Austin Chamber of Commerce Vice Chair for Air Services. “The Chamber works to connect our community globally and make it more efficient for business travelers to get to Europe and beyond, and today, along with our partners, we have done just that. We look forward to filling up KLM’s aircraft and we are grateful for their investment in our region.”

Tom Noonan, President and CEO of Visit Austin, agrees. “Today’s announcement of this new nonstop route is a direct reflection of how Austin continues to evolve as a premier destination for travelers around the world,” he said.

Lufthansa, the world’s largest airline network celebrated the start of new international nonstop service between the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and busiest airport in Germany, the Frankfurt Airport (FRA) Rhein-Main-Flughafen, on Friday, May 3, 2019.

The gate celebration included a ribbon-cutting program, cake, musical performances by Tessy Lou and the Shotgun Stars and Sophia Johnson, and remarks from the airline to announce the start of the five days per week service.

Austin marks the third Texas gateway city to have nonstop service by Lufthansa. Currently, the AUS to FRA route is the only new North American nonstop addition announced by the German carrier this year. A Star Alliance network codeshare partner, Lufthansa’s first arriving flight LH468 from FRA to AUS, touched down in Austin around 2:05 PM. Flight LH469, departed Austin at 4 PM to Frankfurt.

“Lufthansa’s service is a doorway for Central Texans to reach Europe and for global travelers to experience Austin’s art, music, and culinary culture,” said Jim Smith, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Executive Director. “Frankfurt, Germany is a desired international economic and tourist destination. We welcome the air service between the two tech hubs and the successful interchange of international tourism, business, and economic development opportunities.”

Lufthansa operates the flight with a 225 passenger Airbus A330-300 in a three-class cabin configuration. The aircraft has 42 Business Class seats, 28 Premium Economy seats, and 185 Economy Class seats. Flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Optimally timed, flight LH469 will depart Austin at 4 PM and arrive at 9:05 AM in Frankfurt the following day. For passengers flying to Austin, LH 468 is set to take off at 10 AM from the Frankfurt Airport, arriving in Austin at 2:05 PM. All times are local.

“Austin is our third gateway in Texas, offering not only a connection between two culture-rich cities but also an important link for the city’s local bourgeoning technology ecosystem and the global technology hubs which Lufthansa serves,” said Heike Birlenbach, Senior Vice President of Sales for the Lufthansa Hub Airlines and Chief Commercial Officer of the Frankfurt Hub. “Central Texas residents can now access Lufthansa’s vast network of destinations in Europe and beyond via Frankfurt. The new service also supports the growing interest in Austin for both commerce and leisure, directly benefiting the local economy and spurring further business development on both sides of the Atlantic.”

This flight offers Central Texas passengers hundreds of connections to Europe, as well as Africa, the Middle East, and the Indian subcontinent.
