Equality Texas issued endorsements for Democratic United States Senate Candidate MJ Hegar and a slate of pro-equality United States Congressional incumbents and candidates for the November 2020 General Election.

“It is critically important that Equality Texans turn out en masse to vote this November to ensure that Texas continues its march toward equal justice under the law. With the death of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, it is imperative that we elect a pro-equality majority to the United States Senate and House to ensure passage of the Equality Act at the national level to protect LGBTQ people across this country. These incumbents and candidates for office have committed to supporting LGBTQ rights, civil rights and social justice. We strongly support their candidacy,” said Ricardo Martinez,” CEO of Equality Texas.

The group, through its political action committee, Texas Equity PAC, also issued endorsements in September for candidates for the November 2020 General Election in key Texas Senate and House races . “Electing pro-equality House and Senate candidates can help us protect Texans from discrimination by blocking the Lt. Governor from fast-tracking anti-LGBTQ bills to the floor for a hearing,” says Martinez, adding, “We believe voters will overwhelmingly reject candidates who engage in anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and homophobic and transphobic campaign tactics. If these pro-equality leaders are elected, many of them will replace incumbents who espouse anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and policies.”
