The founder and face behind one of the largest gay dating apps in the world will be in Austin this week to meet face-to-face with area members and to promote a new free advertising platform for non-profits. Johnny Skandros from SCRUFF, aka Johnny Scruff, will kick off the weekend and host a happy hour, complete with SCRUFF swag, at The Iron Bear on Friday, May 15 starting at 8 PM. The Iron Bear is open to ages 21 and up. Later, the party moves down to 4th Street, as SCRUFF hosts the Super SCRUFFy WOOF dance at Oilcan Harry’s featuring special guest deejays Ben Baker (NYC) and Seth Breezy (Atlanta) starting at 10 PM. Oilcan Harry’s is open to ages 18 and up.
Two Austin men, Clay White and Kyle Kline, will be special guests at the party. The two were featured in SCRUFF’s controversial Super Bowl ad that was posted on a 48-foot billboard outside of the University of Phoenix Stadium during the Super Bowl this past February. The ads “Play on our team” campaign received global media attention and SCRUFF reported a 20 percent increase in new profiles created in the Phoenix area during the period the ads ran.
The SCRUFF team will also be in town to promote “Benevolads,” a platform that allows Austin non-profits to promote their organizations and upcoming events to SCRUFF users for free.
