The past four years have compromised the United States’ role as as a destination country for displaced LGBTQI people fleeing persecution from state-sanctioned violence. The number of refugees admitted dropped from 85,000 in 2016 to 22,000 in 2018, people were blocked from entering the United States under the ‘Muslim Ban’ and the right to safely claim asylum was rejected. The Biden Administration, through a sweeping memorandum, is signaling a new approach. Will it work?

On THURSDAY, MARCH 11, join Rainbow Railroad and the Center for American Progress at 11 AM Central / 12 NOON Eastern for an insightful discussion on what we can expect from the Biden administration with respect to LGBTQI migrant policy.

  • Moderator – Kimahli Powell, Executive Director, Rainbow Railroad
  • Sharita Gruberg – Senior Director for the LGBTQ Research and Communications Project, Center for American Progress
  • Mira Patel – Senior Fellow, Rainbow Railroad, Member of the Biden-Harris transition team
  • Edafe Okporo – Activist & Author, Executive Director RDJ Refugee Shelter

Questions from the audience will be addressed during the live event as time permits. To attend this event on zoom, you will need to pre-register beforehand.
