Singer, actress and activist Michaela Jaé released her anthemic debut single “Something to Say” (Access Records) last week to much acclaim. The record is a disco, R&B and funk-tinged pop song that sees Michaela calling people to step into their truth and let their voices be heard.

Rodriguez wrote “Something to Say” with PWP (comprised of the legendary Verdine White of Earth, Wind, and Fire, multi-Grammy winning Neal Pogue and John Paris as well as Nick Ferraro and Duncan Hood) and the song is a poignant celebration of equality and love, an absolutely perfect single as we head into pride month.

Michaela gave a surprise performance of the single at the LGBTQ+ Pride concert series OUTLOUD: Raising Voices on June 6, 2021. Part of the Adam Lambert-curated set of musicians to celebrate Stonewall Day, Michaela, for the first time ever, performed “Something to Say” on the closing night of the three-day OUTLOUD concert event at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Michaela Jaé (Mj) Rodriguez stars as housemother “Blanca” in Ryan Murphy’s groundbreaking series POSE on FX which just wrapped, with the series finale airing this past week. Pose was nominated for a 2019 Emmy Award, a 2018 Golden Globe Award in the category of Best Television Series Drama and a Writers Guild Award nomination. The series won a Peabody Award and two GLAAD Media Awards in the category of Outstanding Drama Series. Michaela Jaé herself won the 2019 Imagen Award for Best Actress in Television and was nominated for a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series & an MTV Movie + TV Award in the category of Breakthrough Performance as well nominations for 2 Gold Derby Awards for Drama Actress and Breakthrough Performance. Mj was recently cast as the lead in the upcoming Apple TV+ series LOOT, alongside Maya Rudolph, created by Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard.

A Newark, New Jersey native, Mj’s career has also included the stage, she made her Off-Broadway debut in New World Stages production of RENT as Angel, before continuing onto New York City Center to star in Encores! production of Runaways. She recently starred as ‘Audrey’ in the Pasadena Playhouse’s production of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS.

Beyond talented, Michaela has taken that same passion and fervor found in her acting and poured it into the music she’s creating, and we couldn’t be more excited.
