Lucy Spraggan: TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY

Published

on

Lucy Spraggan is in a good place and wants to share it with the world as she releases her fifth studio album Today Was A Good Day on Cooking Vinyl. Lead single “Lucky Stars” has now had over half a million streams and is playlisted at Radio 2. You can find the album at all retail and digital outlets including Apple Music and Amazon Music.

Lucy kicked off her sold-out headline UK tour in Inverness, which follows the recent announcement that she will be playing Glastonbury for a second time. Lucy is the only X Factor contestant ever to be asked to play Glastonbury – and now she will be returning for a second time on The Avalon Stage. Lucy played The Acoustic Stage to a completely full tent in 2017 and describes the performance as a ‘life changing show’.

With over 50 million YouTube views, 240 million streams on Spotify and the most Googled musician of 2012 –Lucy started out as a singer-songwriter performing at open-mic nights around the country. At just 19 years old she took the brave decision to perform her self-penned hit “Last Night (Beer Fear)” on the X factor and secured a Top 20 single and Top 30 self-released album whilst still competing in the show. It’s since had had over 40 million views on YouTube.

Through relentless touring, her innate songwriting ability and an ever growing fanbase – Lucy has achieved an incredible 4 Top 30 albums (three of which were self-released) – the last of which went to number 12 – and now Lucy’s signed a new record and publishing deal with Cooking Vinyl. Today Was A Good Day marks a new chapter for Lucy musically and personally – her fifth studio album has been produced by Jon Maguire (Calum Scott, Kodaline) and Lucy sounds at her most confident and accomplished.

Last year, Lucy released “Stick The Kettle On” – the first track from the new album – in support of CALM – The Campaign Against Living Miserably and wanted to use her experiences to help others, this was recently used in a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Her knack for telling a story through her songs hasn’t changed and in the past it has earned her comparisons to Courtney Barnett, KT Tunstall and Ed Sheeran. This talent continues on the new album with tracks like “Connie’s Bar,” inspired by a woman she met in Florida; new single “Lucky Stars” and the poignant goodbye song “The Waiting Room” and “Home Wasn’t Built In A Day.”

After beginning the year as support for Melissa Etheridge across Europe and Scandinavia and playing SXSW -Lucy Spraggan now prepares for her own headline tour across the US and Europe, including her own 13-date UK headline tour.

Releasing this fifth album is proof of her enduring appeal.

Madonna: “I Rise”

Madonna collaborated with TIME on the video for “I Rise” to “to share stories of resilience.”

Published

on

Madonna released the empowering and anthemic ballad “I Rise,” the second track of five songs to be previewed before her highly-anticipated new studio album Madame X debuts globally on June 14th. Following the release of the critically-acclaimed “Medellín,” additional songs to be shared with fans include the infectious pop gem “Crave” featuring Swae Lee and produced by Mike Dean on May 10, the Jamaican dancehall vibes of “Future” featuring Quavo on May 17, as well as the sonically innovative “Dark Ballet” on June 7.

Madonna says, “I wrote ‘I Rise’ as a way of giving a voice to all marginalized people who feel they don’t have the opportunity to speak their mind. This year is the 50th anniversary of Pride and I hope this song encourages all individuals to be who they are, to speak their minds and to love themselves.”

As previously announced, on May 4 GLAAD, the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization will honor Madonna with the Advocate for Change Award at the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York City. Madonna is the second person and first woman to ever receive this recognition, which is awarded to a person who changed the game for LGBTQ people around the world through their work.

Influenced creatively by living in Lisbon, Portugal over the past several years, Madame X is a collection of 15 new songs that celebrate Madonna’s career-long affair with Latin music and culture as well as other global influences. Singing in Portuguese, Spanish and English, Madonna collaborated on Madame X with longtime producer Mirwais, as well as with producers Mike Dean and Diplo, among others.

NPR says, “Medellín is a carefully dosed combination of…coolly narcotic dance-pop…and energetic reggaetón,” while Entertainment Weekly declares the song is, “A breezy, summer-ready anthem…” NME calls Medellín a “self-reflective gem of a pop song” and The Guardian says, “Medellín is a potent reminder of Madonna’s deft history of meshing genres.”

Tove Lo: “Glad He’s Gone”

Tove Lo drops the hilarious video for lastest single “Glad He’s Gone” from her upcoming fourth album, SUNSHINE KITTY.

Published

on

Multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated artist Tove Lo debuted the official music video for her latest single, “Glad He’s Gone.” Directed by Vania Heymann and Gal Muggia and shot in Kiev, the video is a hilarious SNL skit-worthy take on those lengthy friend-in-need phone calls between besties. Witnessing a supportive Tove Lo walking (literally) to the ends of the earth, comforting her recently dumped pal, while embarking on her own unforeseen high-drama adventures in the process. Speaking on the video, Tove Lo reveals “I think this might be the best video I’ve ever done. It tells the story of the song SO WELL while being a bizarre mini action movie. I loved working with the directors Vania & Muggia, who came up with this genius idea. The four day and night shoot in Kiev was very intense but with the best and most hard working crew! If anything, it made me realize how much I love acting (and that I’m a real committed friend haha)”.

Speaking about the song, Tove Lo reveals: “We’ve all been on both sides of the break up pep talk with our friends and we all know how good it feels to get your partner in crime back when they finally leave that idiot behind.”

Earlier this month, the Stockholm-born artist also confirmed that her fourth full-length album is on its way. Recorded between Los Angeles and Sweden, Sunshine Kitty represents a new chapter for Tove, marked by a reclamation of confidence, hard-earned wisdom, more time, and a budding romance. The title is “a play on pussy power, but it’s a happy, positive way of seeing it, ” Tove Lo states. “It ties in with the lynx. This cartoon cat (featured on the artwork) is an extension of me and part of the new music. She’s super cute, but she does stupid shit like getting in fights and getting fucked up. It’s how I feel the album sounds.”

Hailed by Rolling Stone as“a kiss-off track with a twist,” and NPR lauding it as “hypnotically infectious,”with TIME Magazine calling it “a treat,” “Glad He’s Gone” offers fans a first taste of her newfound self-acceptance and happiness. Co-produced by Shellback and Struts, the track opens with a delicately plucked acoustic guitar entwined with her usual devilishly angelic delivery before she locks into an eyebrow-raising call-and-response with herself. Everything culminates on the high-pitched hook, “You’re better off, I’m glad that he’s gone. ”It’s about friendship and love,” she goes on. “It’s the obligatory pep-talk you give your girlfriend when she’s going through a breakup. You’re reminding her she’s your partner-in-crime and showing unconditional support. It makes fun of the demands of being a good girlfriend and the dirty stuff you do just to make him confident. There’s a message to it. I’m telling a real story that I think girls need to hear. You want to know your friends are there for you during a breakup. It’s about all the fun you can have after heartbreak.”

“Sunshine Kitty,” Tove Lo’s forthcoming fourth studio album is due for release later this year.
