GRAMMY®, Tony®, and Emmy® Award-winner Ben Platt has released his highly anticipated debut album. Sing To Me Instead is available at all music retailers and streaming services.
Platt celebrated the arrival of Sing To Me Instead with a stellar pair of performances on NBC’s TODAY, including renditions of the LP’s “Older” and “Grow As We Go.” Platt has already heralded Sing To Me Instead with a number of high profile TV appearances, including “Bad Habit” on CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and “Temporary Love” on the nationally syndicated Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Sing To Me Instead has already proved a full-fledged sensation, with tracks released thus far earning more than 16 million global audio and video streams in the weeks leading up to the LP release. Highlights include “Bad Habit,” “Ease My Mind,” “Grow As We Go,” and “Temporary Love,” all of which are joined by official companion videos.
In addition to an incredible response from fans, the tracks have been greeted by critical acclaim, with the Los Angeles Times declaring, “‘Bad Habit’ and ‘Ease My Mind’ showcase (Platt’s) signature vibrato and guttural vulnerability. The piano-driven ballads begin a story of love and loss that’s told on his debut solo album.”
Platt is currently gearing up for his highly anticipated Sing To Me Instead headline tour, set to kick off May 3rd at Chicago, IL’s famed Chicago Theatre and travel through North America, culminating with a show at Los Angeles, CA’s iconic Dolby Theatre on May 24th (see attached itinerary). The tour – which features support from Wrabel and Ben Abraham – includes performances at ACL Live at The Moody Theatre in Austin on Saturday, May 18, 2019 and at the Toyota Music Factory in Irving, Texas on Sunday, May 19, 2019. A limited number of VIP packages are available, including post show receptions with Platt, photos, Q & A’s and much more.
The announcement of Sing To Me Instead was celebrated with exclusive performances from Platt at New York’s Bowery Hotel and Los Angeles’ The Nice Guy, followed by returns to both cities for a pair of extraordinary pop-up events. The immersive gallery installations – which saw surprise performances each night from Platt himself – drew unprecedented demand, including three packed nights on NYC’s Lower East Side, and an unplanned second performance added in Los Angeles due to the sheer number of fans lined up down the street and around two blocks.
The winner of the 2017 Tony® Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for his performance as Evan Hansen in the smash hit, Dear Evan Hansen, Ben Platt is one of today’s most extraordinary talents – a truly multi-faceted actor, singer, and all-around performer. Sing To Me Instead sees him making a remarkable arrival as recording artist and songwriter, co-writing all of the album’s 12 songs. Described by its creator as “an amalgam of a bunch of different relationships in my past, and the very small amount that I’ve learned while grappling with love and romance,” the LP is marked by a striking, deeply emotive brand of classic popcraft, enlivened with sweeping vocals and Platt’s undeniable charm and versatility.
Sing To Me Instead marks Platt’s first recorded output since his duet with Lin-Manuel Miranda on “Found/Tonight,” a featured installment in the remarkable HAMILDROP series. The track – which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s “Digital Song Sales” chart – sees the two Broadway superstars teaming up for an original medley of Hamilton’s “The Story of Tonight” with “You Will Be Found” from Dear Evan Hansen.
Prior to that, Platt was featured as lead vocalist and star of 2017’s DEAR EVAN HANSEN (ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST RECORDING), Atlantic Records’ GRAMMY® Award-winning companion to the Tony® Award-winning musical. One of only seven cast albums to reach the top 20 of the Billboard 200 in the last 50 years, the LP made a momentous chart debut upon its initial February 2017 release, entering the SoundScan/Billboard 200 at #8 with sales equivalents in excess of 28,000 – the highest debut position for an original cast album since 1961 and second highest digital sales debut ever for a cast album.
In addition to his Tony® Award triumph, Platt received a GRAMMY® Award for his role on the DEAR EVAN HANSEN (ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST RECORDING), as well as a 2018 Daytime Emmy Award for his part in the cast’s powerful performance of “You Will Be Found” on NBC’s TODAY. His rapidly growing body of work also includes memorable roles in the Tony® Award-winning original Broadway production of The Book of Mormon and the blockbuster films, Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2, amongst many others. Platt will next lead an all-star cast in the much-anticipated new series, “The Politician,” produced by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan and co-starring Jessica Lange, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Zoey Deutch. Co-executive produced by Platt, “The Politician” will premiere on Netflix on September 27th. Platt will also star in the upcoming film Run This Town, which earned wide-ranging praise upon its premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas.
MIKA: “Tiny Love”
Global pop superstar MIKA debuts new single, “Tiny Love” ahead of his first new studio album in five years MY NAME IS MICHAEL HOLBROOK.
Critically acclaimed, platinum-selling, global pop star MIKA debuts a new single “Tiny Love”, alongside a W.I.Z.-directed video. The track is the second single from MIKA’s highly anticipated new album, My Name Is Michael Holbrook, out October 4.
Of the track, MIKA says, “The most important thing in the world is the love we have for those around us, the love others offer us and the love we have for ourselves. That love can feel so massive and yet at the same time it’s so tiny and imperceivable to others. This song is a conscious decision to provoke that emotion. I knew I needed a different sort of director for this video, more art and film based. W.I.Z. was the perfect choice. From every detail in pre-production, to the art direction and casting, he has one thing in mind; to illustrate a complex narrative that he has written in his head. I am very proud of what he has made. An emotionally epic video for a song full of heart and love. Huge and Tiny at the same time.”
In celebration of the release, MIKA will make a long-awaited return to North America with the Tiny Love Tiny Tour this fall. The headline run kicks off with a show at New York City’s Brooklyn Steel on September 12. He then heads to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Mexico City and Montreal, before jetting overseas for a massive European arena tour. Tickets are on sale now.
MIKA recently debuted the first single “Ice Cream” from the new album, which Rolling Stone dubbed “Summer-Anthem Bait” and TIME calls “a sugar-sweet, carefree and upbeat summer bop.” The track has been streamed 1.5 million times to date and continues to receive rave reviews.
For his first full length in five years, MIKA explores his American heritage on My Name Is Michael Holbrook. While his tumultuous childhood began in Lebanon before fleeing to Paris and then London, he focuses the album on the roots he traces back to his father’s Savannah, Georgia upbringing. The work also paints a loving picture of his relationship with his mother, the woman who trained him, made his wardrobe for years on the road and most importantly taught him never to follow and always to express himself fearlessly. After writing in home studios in Miami and Tuscany over the course of two years, MIKA went to Brussels to record with producers Marc Crew and Dan Priddy.
“I hadn’t put out a record in four years. I didn’t know what to do when it came time to start the process and was honestly kind of at a loss,” MIKA says. “I felt a little disappointed by the commercial side of the industry. I didn’t want to make a record by numbers or by committee. I wanted to make an uncontaminated, homemade pop record.”
Born Michael Holbrook Penniman Jr. in 1983 as the third of five children, MIKA started vocal lessons at seven years old. Learning to play piano and write songs while showing otherworldly vocal range, MIKA quickly became a young virtuoso. MIKA’s musical success began with the release of his hit single, “Grace Kelly.” The single was featured on his debut album, Life In Cartoon Motion, which went straight to #1 in the UK and 11 other countries, going on to sell over seven million copies worldwide. Since his debut he has released three other Platinum selling full length albums, The Boy Who Knew Too Much, The Origin of Love, and No Place In Heaven. In addition, MIKA has not only won a Brit Award for British Breakthrough Act, but he has also been nominated for Grammys, MTV Europe Music Awards, Capital Radio Awards and World Music Awards. Additionally, his RA12 primetime variety show “Stasera Casa Mika” won the prestigious Rose D’or Award for Best Entertainment Series in 2017. Furthermore, he has been a judge on France’s The Voice for six years and hosts his own BBC2 Radio show “The Art of Song.”
Mister Lies: “Mister Lies”
After a five-year personal hiatus, Zanca returns to his project’s roots with a home-recorded, self-titled and self-released third LP.
New York-based producer, composer and sound artist Nick Zanca has been releasing music under the name Mister Lies since 2012. The project began in a Chicago dorm room with the release of a four-track EP, Hidden Neighbors — over the years, his sounds have inhabited a specific intersection between intimacy and atmosphere through a maximalist mosaic of field recordings, sample-based textures, glitchy soundscapes, and nocturnal pop songs.
After a five-year personal hiatus, Zanca returns to his project’s roots with a home-recorded, self-titled and self-released third LP. Realized over the course of a year and explicitly designed as a start-to-finish listen, Mister Lies is a study of capturing the present and a celebration of the art of recording itself. Field recordings and found sounds are intertwined with electroacoustic improvisations and lyrics lifted from journal entries to form a half-hour genre-agnostic montage of memory. Bells sound, birds gossip, trains pass and boats rev their engines — this is kinetic, fluid music that promotes deep listening and headphone time travel.
