Get ready Austin … because your favorite out-of-this-world astrophysicist, the one and only Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, is headed to the Long Center to drop some cosmic knowledge January 18, 2017.
Join us for an evening with an intergalactic personality who needs no introduction — Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, award-winning astrophysicist, author, and favored science “it-guy.” Also host of FOX’s Cosmos, the time is now to sign right up for a front row seat to this evening of engaging conversation with Dr. Tyson on science, exploration and the world as we know it.
Titled “The Cosmic Perspective,” Dr. Tyson’s lecture will focus on our Earth, its place, and the ways we perceive it. He will explain how there is no view of the world as emotionally potent as the one granted by a cosmic perspective that sees Earth as a planet in a vast and empty universe — a pale blue dot. The way we conceive of these things profoundly influences what we think and feel about science, culture, politics and life itself.
In addition to dozens of professional publications and becoming a fixture in both our scientific and pop culture in his own right, Dr. Tyson has written, and continues to write for the public. For five seasons, beginning in the fall of 2006, Dr. Tyson appeared as the on-camera host of PBS-NOVA’s spinoff program NOVA ScienceNOW — an accessible look at the frontier of all the science that shapes the understanding of our place in the universe.
Dr. Tyson is the recipient of eighteen honorary doctorates and the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal, the highest award given by NASA to a non-government citizen.
Let your wildest scientific dreams come true for one night only, and join the Long Center and Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson for a monumental evening of star talk and a little cosmic perspective, January 18th.
