Lyft, Uber Continue Service at Austin’s Airport

The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has temporarily extended its pilot agreement with Lyft and Uber to continue to provide on-demand transportation services for passengers. The six month extension will remain in place while the Austin City Council’s Mobility Committee reviews Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) in Austin and determine a formal policy.

Austin City Code authorizes the director of the Aviation Department to adopt rules to meet customer and fiscal needs for convenient and efficient airport operations.

Under the temporary agreement, Lyft and Uber will pay a one dollar per trip fee for picking up passengers at Austin-Bergstrom. Each app will register each time a driver enters a geo-fence surrounding the airport. A digital decal maintained by each driver using the app will also track each trip to the airport. All TNC vehicles will display signage or trade dress in its interior and will not be allowed to stage anywhere on airport property and can only enter airport property to pick up or drop off a passenger.
