Austin's newest sports league for the LGBTQ community, Volleyball Austin, is set to end its inaugural nine-week season with the championship games on closing night on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at the Austin Sports Center in South Austin. The games are free and open to the public to attend.
Closing night will start with the league's recreational division, with the division's two teams playing their championship match at 7 PM followed by the competitive division championship game at 8 PM.
Last week, the Devils and Panda Express teams from the league's competitive division went head-to-head in a tight match to see who would advance to this week's championship match against the first-seeded Shady Ladies. After each team took a game early in the match, the Devils eventually beat the Panda Express after a close game in the third round. The Devils will go on to play the Shady Ladies for the league's competitive championship on Thursday at 8 PM.
The Spring 2012 Season Championship Party will be immediately after the games on Thursday at Oilcan Harry's, the season's presenting sponsor; who, along with the support sponsors, The Iron Bear, Mud Puppies, therepubliq.com and Work It Personal Training, helped make the league's inaugural season possible. Players from each division's winning team will be awarded medals at the championship party.
Volleyball Austin was founded in 2012 with a mission to provide an environment free of harassment and discrimination for members and friends of the LGBT community to play Volleyball and fulfill their athletic aspirations. The league's next season is scheduled to start this fall in September.
