Summer is here and the drag scene in Austin is gonna be hot! Here’s a quick rundown of the highlights from this month’s calendar.
Lady Bunny is coming back to Austin and she’s bringing that big ass bouffant and her new solo show, Trans-Jester to town and we can pretty much guarantee its gonna offend. The show, co-written by Lady Bunny and Facebook sensation Beryl Mendelbaum, sells out where ever is plays, including at the historic Stonewall Inn last year. In additional to her hilarious parodies of today’s favorite hits, she’s throwing in some social commentary, from political correctness to buzzwords, gender politics to cultural appropriation. John Cameron Mitchell called it “a scream for sanity from the nastiest, most big-hearted comic performer around.”
Austin’s own Rebecca Havemeyer is hosting the show over at The North Door on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 8:30 PM and she’ll be warming y’all up for Lady Bunny. Doors open at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $15 online or $20 at the door, space permitting. Trans-Jester shows sell out, so get your tickets if you want to guarantee your chance to see the show.
If you can’t get enough of Lady Bunny, she’ll be spinning a DJ set over at Oilcan Harry’s on Thursday, July 6 during Stripper Circus starting at 10 PM.
Speaking of Oilcan Harry’s, auditions are over and season 9 of OCH’s Drag Survivor, hosted by Austin’s Wonder Woman of Drag Kelly Kline, kicks off 10 weeks of competition, starting Wednesday, July 5 at 11 PM. Check out who goes home and who inches closer each week to the grand prize.
If you’re a RuPaul’s Drag Race fan, then you’re gonna love Kelly Kline’s Super Sunday Diva Shows in July. Oilcan’s has Season 9’s Valentina on July 2, Season 9’s Shea Couleé on July 16, Season 8’s Derrick Barry on July 23, and Austin’s own from Season 8 & 9 Cynthia Lee Fountaine on July 30. Season 9 winner, Sasha Velour was scheduled to perform on July 9 but had to reschedule according to a tweet from OCH. The shows start at 10:30 PM and 12 MID. The shows are 18+ with a $5 cover.

Wednesday nights at Rain on 4th are getting a makeover as their weekly, interactive drag show SuperRush is retired. Starting July 12, it’s The Sabel Show, starring Sabel Scities with a different guest each week, starting at 10 PM every Wednesday night. The show is free, no cover and 18+ are usually welcome during the drag show from 10 PM – 12 MID.

Sellers 54 is an homage to the age of disco and the days (and nights) of Studio 54.
